Breathable Lime Systems

Traditional lime plastering systems for period and character properties, allowing solid masonry walls to remain breathable while respecting the original construction of the building.

The Process

Traditional Lime Plastering

Step One

Substrate Preparation

Careful preparation of existing stone or brickwork, removing loose or unsuitable material and preparing the background to receive the appropriate lime plaster system.

Step Two

Traditional Lime Base Coats

Traditional sand and lime base coats applied in appropriate layers to build out and level the background while maintaining a breathable plaster system.

Step Three

Lime Finish Coats

Lime finish coats are applied by hand to achieve the required texture and appearance, from traditional floated finishes to fine smooth lime finishes, while maintaining a breathable plaster system.

Insight

Traditional buildings require materials that work with the existing structure. Understanding the background, choosing the appropriate lime system and applying each coat correctly are fundamental to successful restoration.
